02 June 2016 The 2016 ASEAN Bowling Tournament hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva together with the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the World Trade Organization on May 15 opened the 2016 ASEAN Sports and Family Day Events.

The Bowling Tournament is part of a series of sports competitions wherein personnel of ASEAN member countries and their families compete in fields like badminton, snooker, chess and scrabble. The series will culminate in an ASEAsN Sports and Family Day, the final day of competition which features ASEAN food festival, football, tug-of-war and where medals will be awarded to all the winners in the various sports competitions.

Permanent Representative of the Philippine Mission to UN Ambassador Cecilia B. Rebong highlighted that The true spirit of ASEAN camaraderie is characterized by their sportsmanship, fairness, ethics and mutual respect while fostering friendships, fun and friendly competition.

The Philippine Womens Team A, composed of Ms. Arminda Dayupay, Ms. Maggie Uy, Ms. Eleanor Valdez and Ms. Monique Valdez, placed second in the team competition.

Each ASEAN Member country could field two teams to each of the mens and womens category. Team medals will be awarded to the team with the highest: gold, second highest: silver, and third highest: bronze, scoring teams. An individual medals will, likewise, be awarded to the person with the highest, second and third highest score in both the mens and womens category.

This is the third consecutive year the Philippines acted as host of the bowling tournament. END
