03 June 2016—“Sports promotes unity, enhances a sense of being part of a community and intensifies Filipino identity,”said Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador Cecilia B. Rebong in her inspirational remarks during the Opening Ceremony of the First Filipino Community Sports Association Volleyball Tournament on May 14.

Twelve (12) teams competed in the First One-Day Volleyball tournament: eight in the women’s category and four in the men’s category.

Lafang Zumba won the Tournament under the Womens category and its mens counterpart, LAFs, won the Mens category. Their awards will be given in a ceremony scheduled on May 28.

The Tournament’s primary goal is to promote teamwork, friendship, sportsmanship, cooperation, respect and physical fitness among Filipinos in Geneva through the sport of volleyball.

Filipino Community Sports Association was established on January 17, 2016 in Geneva. Filipino Community Sports Association hoped to unite Filipinos regardless of their status, age, religious affiliation, and gender.   END
