10 July 2017 GENEVA — The Filipino Community in Geneva and Vaud held several fundraising concerts from June 30 to July 03 featuring the Aleron Ensemble, an acclaimed all-male choir from the Philippines, to help support those affected by the conflict in Marawi City.

The choir, which recently won top prize in the male choir category of the 10th International Chortage Mainhausen in Germany and qualified for the Grand Prix round at the 46th Florilege Vocal de Tours in France, held concerts at various locations in Geneva, including the World Trade Organization, the International Telecommunications Union, the Church of Saint-Germain, and the Notre Dame Basilica.

The proceeds of the concerts, organized in part by the UP Alumni Association in Geneva and the Ugnayang Bayan, an umbrella group of Filipino organizations in the Swiss cantons of Geneva and Vaud, will go to the Dansalan College in Marawi City to aid displaced teachers and students and to assist in the rehabilitation of seven school buildings.

The group’s well-received repertoire consisted of European and Filipino compositions, as well as reinterpreted contemporary songs like Michael Jackson’s Heal the World and Elton John’s Circle of Life.
