CATHOLIC CANTON

02 November 2015 – Bishop Charles Morerod of the Diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg recognized the valuable role played by migrant workers, particularly Filipinos who make up majority of the Catholic congregation of Saint John XXIII Parish, in ensuring that the Catholic Church remains vibrant and relevant in Geneva. “We love their presence here as members of our community,” he said.

Philippine Ambassador Rebong and Consul General Enrico T. Fos joined Filipino and Swiss parishioners in the Consecration of the Saint John XXIII Church on October 25.

Ambassador Cecilia B. Rebong expressed her sincere appreciation for the kind words of Bishop Morerod. “Filipinos are people of faith and the Church and religious groups provide Filipino migrant workers with the much needed refuge and family when they are abroad,” she said.

Filipinos are one of the most active Catholics in Geneva. Among their many organizations are the Filipino Catholic Community of Geneva (FCCG), Couples for Christ, and Notre Dame de Geneva Choir. END
