Top South Centre Official Calls on PH Permanent Representative 

GENEVA TOP SOUTH CENTRE

GENEVA 11 December 2018 – South Centre Executive Director Dr. Carlos Correa paid a courtesy call on Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations Evan P. Garcia, seeking to further strengthen ties between the Philippines and the Geneva-based organization, on 23 November 2018. 

Dr. Correa extended appreciation for the Philippines’ long-standing support for the South Centre and shared the Centre’s current research, policy analysis, and technical assistance activities on a wide range of issues including trade and investment, business and human rights, climate change, intellectual property, development financing, and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, among others.

Ambassador Garcia lauded the Centre for the work it has done in assisting developing countries, while also encouraging it to expand its role in issues of particular interest to the Philippines such as migration, disarmament, the new digital economy, and global connectivity.

The call concluded with Dr. Correa and Ambassador Garcia undertaking to actively explore opportunities for further cooperation and assistance between the Philippines and the Centre.

The South Center is an intergovernmental organization whose work revolves around research and analysis on policy areas relevant to the protection and promotion of the development interests of developing countries. END
