PH Cites Bandung Principles, Relationship to Nuclear Disarmament
GENEVA 03 May 2018 — Ambassador Maria Cleofe Natividad, Philippine Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines in Vienna (second from left, shown with the Permanent Representatives of Egypt, Venezuela and Iran), underscored the continuing relevance of the Bandung Principles declared in 1955 to the pursuit of nuclear disarmament during a panel discussion in Geneva on 25 April 2018. The panel discussion organized by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) entitled, “Relevance of the NPT: Decalogue of NAM, the Principles of Bandung,” was held at the sidelines of the ongoing Preparatory Committee Meeting for the 2020 Review Conference on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. It focused on three main priorities of NAM in relation to the NPT, namely, nuclear disarmament, peaceful uses of the nuclear energy and the creation of a zone free of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.
