29 November 2017 GENEVA — In collaboration with UNICEF and the youth organization “Step into Action,” the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva took a leadership role in the celebration of the World’s Children’s Day at the Palais des Nations on November 20.
Dubbed “Youth Take Over,” the celebration included various activities organized for children and adolescents, such as forums on youth involvement in the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. The event also featured an exhibit about the extraordinary stories of children from different countries and a pledging ceremony where individuals and institutions made commitments to further promote and protect the rights of children.
“The youth should be given the opportunity to actively influence the crafting of policies that will ultimately affect them. Through activities like the World Children’s Day, we emphasize the need to continue ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns adequately addressed,” said Ambassador Evan Garcia, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the UN in Geneva.
The World’s Children’s Day is celebrated every 20th of November to promote children’s rights and welfare. Since 1990, the day also marks the anniversary of the adoption of the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. END
