29 March 2017 GENEVA SWITZERLAND – Ambassador Evan P. Garcia, the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines to the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), presented his credentials today to Mr. Michael Møller, Director General of UNOG at the Palais des Nations.

He conveyed to the Director-General the good wishes of President Rodrigo Duterte and Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo.

During the call, Ambassador Garcia said that the United Nations is seen as one of the great success stories of international cooperation and reassured that the Philippine Permanent Mission in Geneva will continue to take an active part in the important endeavors of the United Nations in Geneva.

The attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's), meaningful progress in the disarmament and non-proliferation agenda and closer multilateral cooperation in the fields of climate change management, disaster preparedness and resilience, international humanitarian response, global migration and development, health and human rights were also discussed.

Ambassador Garcia emphasized that the Philippines, as a founding member of the United Nations, will stand ready to provide support for the work of the UN in Geneva.

Director-General Møller expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Garcia for the excellent relations between the Philippines and the United Nations and wished him success on his second tour of duty as a Permanent Representative in Geneva. END
