05 January 2017 – Filipino children led the commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s martyrdom through a wre

ath laying ceremony in front of the National Hero’s marker at Pension Bel-Air at Rue du Rhone, Geneva on Rizal Day.

Officials and personnel of the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations/Philippine Consulate General in Geneva organized the ceremony.

Members of the Filipino Community in Geneva attended the commemoration.

“He believed in

himself and in other people. He is a true inspiration for he has always the good of our people in mind, even at a very young age. He is an inspiration to our youth and to everyone, thus, Dr. Rizal will always be relevant and will always be in style,” said Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. Maria Teresa T. Almojuela in her remarks.

She added that Rizal did not forget to look back and relate what he had learned from his travels in Europe with what was happening in the Philippines.

Rizal traveled across Europe with Dr. Maximo Viola, his good friend, after the publication of Noli Me Tangere in 1886 in Berlin. He visited Geneva from June 06 to 21, 1887. Both men also visited Schaffhausen, Basel, Berne and Lausanne in Switzerland. END
