05 December 2016 – Mr. Ryan Jose E. Ruiz III, 38, a Filipino working at the World Health Organization, was the first to register at the Philippine Consulate General in Geneva on December 01 upon the resumption of the registration for overseas Filipinos for the 2019 midterm elections.
Mr. Ruiz narrated to Consul General Enrico T. Fos that he personally went to the Consulate to register because he wanted to make sure he can exercise his right of suffrage in the 2019 election. Mr. Ruiz is a medical technologist and is working on several projects for the World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva.
The registration period for overseas Filipino voters for the May 2019 national elections will run until September 30, 2018.
Filipino citizens, who are or who will be overseas during the 30-day voting period, who are at least 18 years old on Election Day and not otherwise disqualified by law, may register per COMELEC Resolution No. 10167. Those qualified to register may download Overseas Form No. 1 (OVF No. 1) at the Consulate’s website by clicking at the iRehistro icon there (http://genevapm.dfa.gov.ph). The registration form should be submitted to the Consulate General personally by the registrant in order to have their biometics captured as part of the registration process.
Mr. Ruiz said that taking part in the election is one way to connect and to take part in the political and public discourse in the Philippines.
“We call on our fellow kababayans who are residing here in Geneva and Vaud to register so they can take part in the 2019 elections. You have more than a year to submit your registration application to the Consulate. Mag-rehistro na po tayo,” said Consul General Fos.
