22 November 2016 – The Philippines continues to actively take part in the historic work on the development of indicators to measure global progress on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction’s (SFDRR’s) seven agreed targets as well as on the updating of terminology relating to disaster risk reduction (DRR).
The work on the development of indicators and terminology on DRR is being done by an open-ended intergovernmental expert working (OEIWG), composed of member states, observers of the General Assembly, intergovernmental organizations and other entities, relevant UN agencies and stakeholders.
The first session was held in Geneva from September 29 to 30, 2015, preceded by informal meetings on September 28, 2015. The second session was held in Geneva from February 10 to 11, preceded by informal meetings on February 09.
The Philippines is represented in the final meeting of the OEIWG at the Palais des Nations, by Director Remedios S. Endencia of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Ms. Susana G. Juangco, Chief of the Education and Training Division at the Office of Civil Defense as well as by Ms. Sharon Johnette Agduma and Ms. Marean Abarra of the Philippine Permanent Mission in Geneva on November 14.
Upon adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, the General Assembly established, in its resolution 69/284 of June 03, 2015, the OEIWG to develop indicators to measure global progress on the Framework's seven agreed targets. The OEIWG is also considering an update of disaster risk reduction terminology. Once the work is concluded, it will be submitted to the General Assembly for consideration. END
