04 July 2016 - The Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the United Nations Office in Geneva participated in the annualNational Dress Day and Multicultural Festival held at the Human Rights Council on June 17.
The Multicultural Night and National Dress Day is an annual event organized by the human rights experts from various country delegations to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UN HRC). It celebrates cultural diversity through wearing of their national dresses, the sharing of cuisine and beverages, and the playing of different music from all countries represented at the UN HRC.
Usually held in March, the special day which culminates in a multicultural fiesta celebration, was held for the first time during the June Session to enhance the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Human Rights Council.
The Philippines, along with other ASEAN member countries in a show of ASEAN solidarity, featured the best of ASEAN cuisine and delicacies in one table. This was lauded by those who attended the fiesta event as one of the highlights of the evening. Other geographic regions likewise presented their signature beverages and dishes.
This year’s Philippine participation was enhanced by the performance of the Bulaklakan dance by the Filipino Catholic Community in Geneva Dance Group. END
