17 June 2016 - As President of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), a group of countries that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, the Philippines took part as a witness in the signing of a funding agreement between Germany and the office of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in a ceremony that took place in Geneva on June 14.
Germany contributed EUR100,000 in support of the CVF Secretariat in the UNDP, in particular, on activities related to climate finance and capacity-building.
“This assistance from the German Federal government will make an important contribution to our efforts to address the adverse impacts of climate change,” said Ambassador Cecilia B. Rebong, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the UN and Other Organizations in Geneva.
“Countries on the climate frontline have been increasingly active in cooperating across sectors where our interests are at stake. We will continue our engagement in order to help shape better responses to protect populations from the constant threat of climate change,” she added.
The CVF aims to raise awareness about climate change and exchange best practices on how best to address its impacts.
Germany was represented by Ambassador Ulrich Seidenberger, Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN and Other International Organizations in Geneva, while UNDP was represented by its director, Ms. Maria Luisa Silva. END
