Geneva Culture

11 March 2015 - The Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva, led by Ambassador Cecilia B. Rebong, promoted Philippine culture at the Human Rights Council during the Multicultural Night and National Dress Day Celebration held at the Palais des Nations on March 06.

Ambassador Rebong expressed appreciation for events such as the Multicultural Night and National Dress Day, where “unity in diversity” is not merely a concept but also a reality.

The Multicultural Night and National Dress Day is an annual event organized by the human rights experts from various country delegations to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UN HRC). It celebrates cultural diversity by diplaying each country’s national dress, the sharing of cuisine and beverages, and the playing of different music from all countries represented at the UN HRC.

Philippine culture was showcased through the beautiful Filipiniana worn by Philippine Mission personnel, and through the delicious delicacies it shared for the ASEAN Food and Beverage table.

ASEAN solidarity is likewise showcased by this event. A single table featuring the best of ASEAN cuisine was one of the evening’s highlights.

The Philippines’participation this year was enhanced by the attendance of National Food Authority Adminsitrator Zenen Renan B. Dalisay who was in Geneva as a panelist for the High Level Panel Discussion on Human Rights and Climate Change. END
