Filipino Community in Switzerland Celebrates Sinulog 2018

01 February 2018 GENEVA — The Philippine Consulate General in Geneva, Switzerland joined the Filipino community in Switzerland in celebrating the Sinulog Festival at Salle des Asters, Servette, Geneva, Switzerland on 27 January.

In his remarks, Consul General Enrico T. Fos of the Philippine Consulate General in Geneva thanked the organizers of the Sinulog Festival for their unwavering faith in the Child Infant Jesus and their tireless efforts in organizing the Sinulog Festival as a religious and cultural event.

Consul General Fos also took the opportunity to explain the various measures being implemented by the Department of Foreign Affairs in addressing concerns regarding the passport appointment system. He emphasized that senior citizens, young minor children, pregnant women, person with disability and OFWs are not required to seek an appointment for their passport application.

He also explained the country’s economic gains, particularly the consistent high economic growth rate achieved by the country under the stewardship of President Rodrigo R. Duterte. He encouraged the OFWs not only to continue supporting the their families back home but for them to invest in the country and in the process towards sustained economic growth.

Jointly organized by several Filipino catholic organizations based in various parts of Switzerland, the Sinulog Festival gathered more than 600 participants venerating infant Jesus Christ. Similar to the Sinulog festival in Cebu, the celebration of the Sinulog in Geneva is both a religious and cultural event with activities that includes celebration of the Holy Mass and presentation of cultural performances of Filipino and Filipino-Swiss local talents.
