Geneva- With five months left to the Overseas Voting Registration period and after several initiatives to encourage Filipinos within its jurisdiction to register, the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the United Nations Office and Other International Organisations/ Philippine Consulate General in Geneva registered its 1000th new overseas absentee voter today, 24 May 2014.
Geneva PM/PCG broke the 1000th Overseas Absentee Voting Registrant on 24 May 2015 during the “PCG Ko, Bukas ng Linggo” program, wherein the Consulate General provides consular and other services on a Sunday.
As part of its commitment to ensure that every Filipino within its jurisdiction will be given the opportunity to exercise their right to vote, Geneva PM/PCG also organised receptions, seminars and forums, wherein OAV registration was part of the activity, in order to reach out to the Filipinos in the Cantons of Geneva and Vaud, and those working in the United Nations and other international organisations. It also conducted OAV registration during a three-month long basketball tournament in Geneva.
Geneva PM/PCG registered a total of 1,504 overseas voters for the elections held in 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2013. There is an estimated number of 7,000 Filipinos in the Cantons of Geneva and Vaud.
